rbmThe Balkan Civil Society Development Network was developed from the Capacity Building Network, which was started in 2000 as part of the South-East Europe Ecumenical Partnership of the World Council of Churches (WCC SEEEP).

This program is based on the identification of the needs of all included partner organizations and represents a basis for the action plan of the Network, for the period of 2004 – 2006. It is upgrading of the previous experience among the partner organizations and their successful implementation of the previous three-years program. The network is based on the partnership among organizations which share common vision and mission and have similar needs and capacity building resources. The Secretariat of the Network is operating within the Macedonian Center for International Cooperation (MCIC) in Skopje.

The general goal is strengthening the capacities and cooperation of the civil society through the development of indigenous concepts, practices and strengthening of the actors of the civil society in the Balkans. The objective of the program is to increase the individual and organizational capacities of the relevant CSOs from the Balkan and their cooperation. The main tasks are: to improve/intermediate the financial limits of the CSOs, through improved skills and knowledge on fund raising and support; to increase the border and cross-sector cooperation; to improve the quality of the standards, skills and knowledge among the CSOs.

The program develops a package of services required for the strengthening of the third sector and strengthening of its skills and role in service provision to its beneficiaries. The packages consist of different activities, among which are: tailored trainings, mutual visits, consultations/instructions, field visits, workshops, networking and information exchange. The expertise areas are: networking, advocacy and lobbying, fund raising and support, codex of behavior and standards’ establishment, CSOs’ governance, institutional development, organizational development, intercultural learning and gender role in the development.
